San Blas is the walkable colonial port on the San Blas corridor of the northern Nayarit coast, north of the official Riviera Nayarit destinations and well north of the Bay of Banderas, a Pueblo Mágico since 2023: the Plaza Principal, restaurants, the mercado, hotels and the pier, el muelle, with the 1770 fort and the ruined church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario on the Cerro de la Contaduría above town, whose bells Longfellow wrote his last poem about, and the La Tovara mangroves and Bahía de Matanchén beside it. Buyers are retirees and history-minded second-home owners far from the Vallarta market. The town is famous for its biting jejenes at dusk, services are those of a small port, and parcels need the notary's agrarian check; foreigners hold through a fideicomiso.
