About El Tigre
El Tigre is the golf community inside Paradise Village: 260 home sites behind about seven kilometres of perimeter wall wrapped around the Von Hagge course, between Paseo de los Cocoteros and the internal loop of Paseo de las Garzas, west of Highway 200, with streets named for fauna, Iguana, Jungla, Colibrí, Faisanes, Tucanes, Venados. The clubhouse sits under a Mayan-style stone arch and keeps resident Bengal tigers; the course is a par-72 rated among Mexico's best. Do not confuse it with Los Tigres, the separate gated house community next door.
The stock is gated condos and detached villas: Isla Palmares on the fairways, Taheima, Artesanías, Green Bay, Nitta, the five D'Toscana towers, and Vireo Living in pre-construction in front of hole 5; house pockets are Villas Vista al Lago, Villas Primavera, Villa Mallorca, Alessandra, Vicenza, Puntacala and Garza Bay. Buyers are American and Canadian retirees and golf snowbirds; there is no retail strip and no nightlife inside the wall, and Paradise Plaza is a five-minute drive.
Practical points. Beach access is through the Playa Royale beach club membership, about fifteen minutes' walk, not a private El Tigre beach. Golf memberships are a separate annual or multi-year fee on top of the sub-association dues; ask for twelve months of both. Many sub-associations prohibit rentals under six to twelve months, so get the rental policy in writing. Golf-front is not golf-view, Artesanías and Taheima sit across the road from the course, so verify the fairway and sightline. Canal edges are crocodile habitat; swim only at the flagged beach. Hospital Joya is five to seven minutes; the airport fifteen to twenty off-peak.
