About La Cruz Centro
La Cruz Centro, el pueblo, the plaza, is the original fishing village of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, founded in the 1930s by the Chávez family, about 4,200 people in the 2020 census: the Plaza de la Cruz and its parish, the malecón row of fish restaurants, El Mesón de Mara, Philo's, Octopus Garden, La Peska, and the Embarcadero panga dock, with the seafood-named inner streets Coral, Camarón, Tiburón and Mar Caribe running from the malecón inland to Highway 200. Marina Riviera Nayarit is a five-minute walk south along the waterfront, Playa La Manzanilla's calm cove a block or two east; Vicente Chávez and Magisterial are the named barrios at its edges. The Wednesday tianguis and the Sunday Mercado del Mar with around 170 vendors fill the streets from November to April.
Low-rise and cobblestone: locally built concrete houses, a long tail of small casitas and a handful of boutique condo buildings of one to six units, Cruz Marina Living and Kinau Marina Residences among the few new ones, with the marina-edge condos of Karima Bay and La Joya Huanacaxtle overlapping the boundary. Residents are fishing families, Chávez descendants, Canadian and American snowbirds, boaters up from the marina and Guadalajara weekenders; it is the most walkable address in the area.
Practical points. Water comes from two municipal wells and the supply is fragile, so tinacos and cisterns are standard and nobody drinks from the tap. Parking is tight on the cobblestones and older houses have no garage; market days squeeze every block. The Ejido de la Cruz de Huanacaxtle is a living legal entity, so Centro parcels can carry ejido origins and the notary's registry and agrarian checks are mandatory; foreigners hold through a fideicomiso. Highway 200 is the single road; hospital CMQ in Bucerías is fifteen minutes, the airport twenty-five to thirty-five.
