Punta Pérula, Perula, is the fishing village at the swimming-friendly end of the eight-kilometre Bahía de Chamela on the Costalegre, two and a half to four hours south of Vallarta on Highway 200; the listings tagged here spread along the Chamela and Pérula corridor, Quémaro and Las Rosadas included. A flat village core walkable in fifteen minutes, pangas to the Chamela islands, and no high-rises anywhere.
Buyers are American and Canadian retirees and plan-B expats after cheaper beach life than Vallarta, alongside the very-high-end estates further along the coast. There is no full-service hospital on the Costalegre; serious cases go to Manzanillo or back to Vallarta. The highway is two lanes with a mountain section and rockslides from June to October, night driving is discouraged, the open ocean brings storm swells, and coastal parcels often carry ejido history, so the notary's title search comes first and foreigners hold through a fideicomiso.
