About Barra de Navidad
Barra de Navidad, Barra, is the most developed town on the Costalegre, at the southern end of the Jalisco coast by the Colima border, two and a half to four hours south of Vallarta on Highway 200: a calm lagoon-side beach and an open-ocean jetty, the Isla Navidad resort and the village of Colimilla across the lagoon, and San Patricio Melaque four and a half kilometres west as its extension. Buyers are American and Canadian expats and retirees after cheaper beach life than Vallarta. There is no full-service hospital on the Costalegre, so serious care means Manzanillo; the highway is two lanes with rockslides from June to October, open-ocean swells hit in storms, and coastal parcels often carry ejido history, so the notary's title search comes first and foreigners hold through a fideicomiso.
