La Cruz de Loreto, Cruz de Loreto, is a working fishing pueblo of about 1,800 people on the open Pacific well south of Banderas Bay in the Tomatlán municipality: a beach, a plaza and a malecón, small inns, horse rides and mountain biking, and a walkable two-block core. Buyers are Mexican weekenders and retirees and a few North American eco-investors after cheap coast far from the towers. The beach is open ocean, swimmable in calm season only and without the bay's protection; the drive from Vallarta is long on Highway 200, services are minimal, and the notary's agrarian check comes first on every parcel; foreigners hold through a fideicomiso.
